Stiftelsen Anna Ahrenbergs fond för vetenskapliga m.fl. ändamål - Anna Ahrenberg Italy scholarship

Anna Ahrenberg Italy scholarship

You receive a one-off 100,000 SEK (about 8,800 EUR) to fund a longer continuous stay in Italy while you write your master's thesis. You can base yourself in Rome or anywhere else in Italy that your research needs. The grant comes from the Anna Ahrenberg Foundation in Gothenburg, which has supported cultural exchange between Sweden and Italy since the 1920s. One scholarship is awarded each year.

Who can apply

• Level: You study at master's level.
• University and faculty: You are at the Faculty of Humanities or the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg (GU), or you study architecture at Chalmers University of Technology.
• Thesis need: Your master's thesis genuinely needs a longer stay in Italy, for example work in music, art, language, literature, archaeology, history or architecture.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. You just have to be enrolled at one of these institutions.

How to apply

You send the foundation a roughly 1,000-word letter describing your project and why you need the stay. Add a CV and a statement from your supervisor. There is no separate form. The deadline is 1 June 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly: only master's students at two Gothenburg institutions whose thesis actually requires fieldwork in Italy qualify, and just one scholarship is given per year. The eligible group is small, so if you clearly fit those conditions and can show a convincing, Italy-specific project, your prospects are solid. A strong, concrete project description is what decides it.
