About this scholarship

John Hedin Foundation for Lidköping student grant

You will receive a grant to help fund your university studies in Sweden. The Foundation sets the level of general grants each year, so there is no fixed amount; the Board decides on this at its meeting in December. As part of a separate programme, four pupils at De la Gardieskolan in Lidköping who are planning to go to university will each receive 20,000 SEK (about 1,800 EUR). The industrialist John Hedin founded the foundation in 1945 to support healthcare and education in Lidköping. It continues to award around 1.4 million SEK annually across all funding categories.

Who can apply

  • Link to Lidköping: You are, or were, officially registered as a resident of the municipality of Lidköping (listed in the Swedish population register).
  • Your studies: You are doing a post-secondary education in Sweden that lasts at least three years, at a university, university college or similar.
  • Field of study: All subjects are open.
  • Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. The key factor is that you are registered as a resident of Lidköping, not your nationality.
  • Grades: The foundation selects applicants on the basis of their academic performance, so good grades are an advantage.

How to apply

You apply via the Foundation’s online form and verify your identity using a Bank ID, so no paper signature is required. Your application must be received between 15 August and 15 October. The Board of Trustees will decide on the grants in December of the same year.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is linked to a specific town. You must be, or have been, registered as a resident of Lidköping and be studying for a degree programme lasting at least three years, which keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate good grades, your prospects are good. Every year, the foundation awards grants in various categories, meaning there is a genuine, regularly available fund from which to draw.
