What you get

You will receive 50,000 to 200,000 SEK (about 4,400 to 17,600 EUR) to fund a period of study abroad lasting at least one full academic year. The exact amount is determined on a case-by-case basis and depends on your study plan. The grant covers the following autumn and/or spring semester. You will also become part of the foundation’s network of former scholarship holders, who meet regularly. This Swedish foundation awards around 10 scholarships each year to broaden young Swedes’ knowledge of international affairs.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Swedish citizen.
• Age: You are between 18 and 28 years old.
• Level: Your degree programme leads to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a Swedish or foreign university.
• Where you study: Your degree programme includes at least one full academic year abroad.
• Field of study: Any topic is suitable, provided it offers an international perspective. Examples include sustainability, peace and conflict studies, international relations, economics, the humanities, the social sciences, technology and the natural sciences.
• Purpose: Your training should lead you to a career in which an understanding of international issues plays an important role and which is focused on improving people’s living conditions.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
• Does not qualify: Exchange programmes, work placements abroad, PhD programmes, language courses and school education.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s website. The application period runs each year from 1 November to 31 December. All applicants will receive a response by 31 May. The selection process takes into account your academic results as well as the clarity of the link between your course of study and the promotion of international understanding.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is relatively restrictive. You must be a Swedish citizen aged between 18 and 28 and intend to spend a full academic year studying abroad; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is small, and only around 10 scholarships are awarded each year. A clearly defined study plan that aligns with the foundation’s objectives is what sets applicants apart from the rest. If you meet the eligibility criteria and present this convincingly, your chances are good.
