Axel Adler Scholarship (University of Gothenburg)

You get a full tuition fee waiver for your entire programme at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. This means you pay no course fees at all. The waiver covers a full Master's (4 semesters, 120 ECTS), a one-year Master's such as Investigative Journalism (2 semesters, 60 ECTS), or a Bachelor's (6 semesters, 180 ECTS). You are also covered by FAS+ insurance while you study. It is funded by two Adlerbertska foundations together with the Swedish Council for Higher Education. Usually one scholarship goes to each programme. The Artistic Faculty shares four across all its programmes, and for 2026 up to ten extra waivers may be added for the programmes with the most applicants. The award does not include money for living costs, accommodation or travel.

Who can apply

• Who pays fees: You must pay tuition fees in Sweden, which in practice means you come from outside the EU/EEA. No nationality or age limit applies beyond this.
• Where you study: You apply to a campus-based programme (not online) at the University of Gothenburg as your first-choice option.
• Level and field: All international Master's programmes qualify. For Bachelor's, only six programmes count: Software Engineering, International Relations, Business and Economics, and the BFA programmes in Metal Art, in Wood Oriented Furniture Design, and in Craft with Specialisation in Crafting Futures.
• Admission: You have applied and been admitted to a full-time programme.
• Selection basis: You are ranked mainly on how well your background fits the programme you chose. Your academic results may also count.

How to apply

First apply to your programme through universityadmissions.se by 15 January 2026, pay the application fee, and prove your eligibility by 2 February 2026. If you qualify, you get an email around 10 February 2026 inviting you to apply for the scholarship. You then apply between 10 and 28 February 2026 with a short CV and a letter of motivation (each up to 3,000 characters). Results come by email on 7 April 2026 for Master's applicants and 14 April 2026 for Bachelor's applicants.

How realistic are your chances?

Competition is real, since typically only one waiver goes to each programme. The ten possible extra awards for high-demand programmes in 2026 improve the odds slightly. Your prospects depend heavily on a clear CV and motivation letter that show a strong fit with your chosen programme, because that is the main ranking criterion. Applying to a less crowded programme and writing a focused motivation is what sets applicants apart.
