KTH General Travel Foundations travel scholarship

You get a one-off travel grant for a specific academic trip: attending a scientific conference, joining a research school, or spending research time at another university. It is a single payment for one project, not a monthly stipend. The exact amount depends on your budget and on the funds available that year, so you apply with a costed plan for a defined trip. Six foundations at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm pool their money and award it through one call.

Who can apply

• Your link to KTH: You work at KTH as a teacher, researcher, doctoral student, or administration or library staff member. In some cases undergraduate students at KTH can also apply.
• A concrete trip: You have a specific academic trip planned, such as a conference, research school or research visit abroad.
• Field of study: All fields are open.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Apply online through the KTH scholarship portal. Each call links to its own form, and you attach a budget for your trip. Some foundations are open all year; others (such as Björns stiftelse) are usually announced in February. Processing can take up to two months. The grant is paid to your school or faculty, not into your own account.

How realistic are your chances?

This award only goes to people already connected to KTH, so the applicant pool is small. If you are a doctoral student, researcher or staff member there with a clear, well-costed trip that serves your academic work, your prospects are good. A precise budget and a trip that plainly fits the scientific purpose count for more than a polished pitch.
