Malme Foundation travel scholarship (KTH EECS)

You get a travel grant to do an internship or your degree project abroad, mainly during the summer break. The grant covers travel and accommodation for a stay in another country, most often England, Germany or France. The exact sum is not fixed. It depends on the foundation's available funds and how many students apply. The money comes from the Malme Foundation, a fund donated in 1984 and managed by KTH's School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).

Who can apply

• University: You study electrical engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, in the EECS school.
• What you use it for: An internship abroad (usually over the summer) or a degree project (your thesis work) done abroad.
• Where you go: Any country outside Sweden. England, Germany and France are the main destinations.
• Specialisation: Students specialising in electric power engineering (high-tension / starkströmsteknik) get priority. This is a bonus, not a requirement.

How to apply

You apply through the online form on the KTH student portal and log in first. You attach a budget with an estimate of your travel and accommodation costs. The trip does not have to be booked yet when you apply. The Malme Foundation is advertised together with the Engbloms fund each spring and autumn term.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut very narrowly. You must be an electrical engineering student at KTH's EECS school and plan an internship or thesis abroad, so the eligible group is small. If you fit those conditions, and especially if you specialise in electric power engineering, your prospects are good. As a small fund, the amount and the number of grants depend on the money available each term, so a clear, well-costed budget helps your case.
