SSCEN Sustainability Prize for Master's Theses

You get a one-off prize of 25,000 SEK (about 2,200 EUR) for an outstanding master's thesis on sustainability. Two prizes are awarded each year: one for a thesis from the Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) and one from the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) at Lund University. That is 50,000 SEK (about 4,400 EUR) in total. Winners are also invited to present their findings, discuss transformation challenges and attend the award ceremony. The prize is run by the Sparbanken Skåne Centre for Sustainable Enterprising (SSCEN) at Lund University together with Sparbanken Skånes Ägarstiftelse Finn.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You study business at LUSEM or engineering at the Faculty of Engineering (LTH), both at Lund University.
• Degree level: You wrote the thesis for a master's degree.
• Topic: Your thesis is about sustainability, for example changing policies, organisations, value chains, industries, technologies or the financial system.
• Timing: Your thesis was completed and approved between 1 September of the previous year and 31 August of the current year.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. What matters is that you study at one of the two Lund University faculties above.

How to apply

You cannot nominate yourself. Your supervisor or examiner nominates your thesis through an online form. By then your thesis must be plagiarism-checked and uploaded in full to the department's public thesis database. Winners are announced later in the autumn term and honoured at a ceremony.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is cut very narrowly. Only two are awarded each year, and only theses from two Lund University faculties on a sustainability topic qualify. The jury weighs originality, academic quality and real-world relevance, so a strong, practical thesis stands out. Since your supervisor or examiner has to nominate you, the decisive step is making sure they know your work and rate it highly.
