Sysav essay scholarship (Sysavstipendiet)

You get a share of up to 50,000 SEK (about 4,400 EUR) in total each year for writing a strong thesis on waste and resource management. It is a one-off prize for a completed thesis, not a monthly grant. The prize can go to one student or be split between several. The jury decides how to divide it, and in a weak year may award nothing. Sysav is a waste and recycling company in the Skåne region of southern Sweden. It gives this prize to encourage research it can use, on topics such as sorting waste at source, recycling, reuse, waste prevention and the circular economy.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You study at a university or higher-education institution in Skåne, southern Sweden. Your supervisor can also apply for you.
• Level of work: Your thesis is at bachelor's, magister or master's level and worth at least 15 higher-education credits (ECTS).
• Topic: It deals with waste and resource management, for example source sorting, recycling, reuse, waste prevention or the circular economy.
• Timing: Your thesis was approved during 2025 or up to the closing date of 27 February 2026.
• Supervisor: Your supervisor knows that you are applying.

How to apply

Fill in the application form from the Sysav website and send it by email by Friday 27 February 2026. A jury of industry experts picks the winners, and their decision is final. The prizes are handed out on Sysav Day (Sysavdagen) on 24 April 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is cut narrowly: you must study in Skåne and have written a thesis specifically on waste and resource management, so few people qualify. If your work fits that field closely and is genuinely strong, your prospects are good, since the jury rewards the most relevant theses. Keep in mind the jury can split the money or decide not to award it at all.
