Kungl och Hvitfeldtska stiftelsen - Higher Education Scholarships

What you get

You will receive a one-off payment of 15,000 SEK (about 1,330 EUR) to support your studies in Sweden. The money comes from the ‘Kungl och Hvitfeldtska stiftelsen’, a foundation that has been awarding scholarships to students with roots in the Gothenburg region since 1664. You can only receive this scholarship once.

Who can apply

• Your school: You have completed upper secondary education (Gymnasium) in the former district of Göteborgs och Bohus and hold your leaving certificate (slutbetyg).
• Where you are from: You were born in the Diocese of Gothenburg (Göteborgs stift) or were registered there (folkbokförd) when you started secondary school in that diocese.
• Study progress: You have earned at least 60 higher education credits (högskolepoäng) at Bachelor’s level. All credits will be recognised, even if you have changed degree programmes.
• Where you study now: You are studying at a state university or university of applied sciences in Sweden, at the Stockholm School of Economics (Handelshögskolan i Stockholm) or at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, and plan to complete your degree there.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Financial need: Your financial resources are limited.
• Academic promise: You’re well on the way to successfully completing your degree.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s website. The application period runs each year from 15 August to 20 October. Only successful applicants will be notified, usually at the end of November.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is strictly limited in geographical terms. You must have attended secondary school in the former district of Göteborgs och Bohus and have been born or be registered as a resident in the Diocese of Göteborg, which means that the number of people eligible for the grant remains small. If you clearly meet these requirements, have 60 credit points and can demonstrate financial need, your prospects are good. Just make sure you apply within the specified timeframe in the autumn.
