Senator Emil Possehl travel scholarship

You get a travel grant of an individually set amount to spend time at companies and organisations in German industry and commerce. It covers only your travel and living costs, meaning the cheapest travel option plus food and accommodation. The exact sum is decided case by case. You can use it for a study visit, a work placement or a project study in Germany. The fund was set up in 1912 by a donation from senator Emil Possehl of Lübeck. Since 2009 the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce (Tysk-Svenska Handelskammaren) has managed it.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You work in commerce or industry and have practical experience or relevant training, or you are studying a related subject.
• Field: Your area of expertise covers economics, industry or technical and commercial subjects.
• Nationality: You are Swedish and live or study in Sweden.
• Where you go: You are visiting a company or organisation in the German industrial or commercial sector.
• Purpose: You are taking part in a study visit, an internship or a project-based course. This does not cover an exchange semester or year at a higher education institution.

How to apply

You must apply online via the Chamber’s application portal by 16 May. Please describe in detail what you would like to study in Germany. Please enclose a brief CV and a letter of recommendation from your employer, line manager or supervisor. The Chamber will make the decision, and no appeal may be lodged against this decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is granted on a highly selective basis. You must be a Swedish national, be working or studying in a commercial or technical field, and be able to present a concrete plan for a visit to German industrial or commercial enterprises. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you meet these criteria and submit a clear, well-thought-out application with a strong reference, your chances are good.
