Gunnar Fröbergs Memorial Fund scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of 15,000 SEK (about 1,300 EUR) to help fund your studies at the University of Gothenburg. As a rule, two scholarships are awarded each year. The money comes from a trust established at the university in memory of Gunnar Fröberg. It supports students whose studies were affected last year due to a disability, a chronic illness or an acute illness.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying at the University of Gothenburg.
• Faculty: You are enrolled at the ‘Faculty of Philosophy’. In Gothenburg, this encompasses the humanities, most natural sciences, the Faculty of Economics, as well as parts of the social sciences and educational sciences. IT and teacher training programmes are not included.
• Study progress: You have studied at this faculty for at least one semester and have earned at least 30 ECTS credits.
• Currently studying: You must be actively enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in the year in which the scholarship is awarded. Part-time means at least 30 credit points in the calendar year.
• Health situation: You can provide evidence of a disability, a chronic illness or an acute illness by means of a medical certificate.
• Field of study: All degree programmes offered by the Faculty are open to applicants. Preference will be given to students of modern languages.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at the University of Gothenburg.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the University of Gothenburg’s online scholarship system. Please enclose a medical certificate and a certificate of your grades and enrolment from Ladok, the Swedish student database system. If you are studying modern languages, please state this in your written personal statement to be given priority. How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a select group of applicants: you must be studying at a specific faculty at a university and be able to demonstrate that a health condition has hindered your studies. This means that only a small number of people meet the criteria. If you clearly meet these criteria – particularly if you are studying modern languages – your chances are good. As only around two scholarships are awarded, a well-documented application is crucial.
