Henrik Göransson Sandviken Foundation scholarship

You receive a one-off payment for your studies at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Past awards ranged from 15,000 SEK to 65,000 SEK (about 1,300 to 5,700 EUR), sometimes higher. The exact sum depends on how many people apply, the funds available and your grades. This is the largest of the roughly 90 foundations that KTH manages. It paid out close to 6 million SEK in 2024.

Who can apply

• University: You are an active student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
• Programme: You study a civil or higher engineering programme (Civilingenjör or Högskoleingenjör) or a bachelor's programme at KTH. If you study Materials Engineering or Materials Design, you apply to their own separate funds instead.
• Level: You are a student. Doctoral candidates and researchers cannot apply.
• Study activity: You were registered as an active student for the whole previous academic year, with no break and not in your final graduating phase.
• Completed courses: You have passed all compulsory courses of years 1 and 2 by 13 September.
• Grades: You have a strong average. In recent years the minimum was 4.5 on KTH's internal grading scale.
• Financial need: Your financial situation is taken into account.
• Industry focus: If two applicants are otherwise equal, priority goes to the one whose studies point towards industry.

How to apply

You apply online through KTH's scholarship portal, which needs a KTH student login, using the separate form for this fund. The application opens on 15 January and closes on 15 February at midnight (CET). You hear the outcome by email before midsummer, around the end of June.

How realistic are your chances?

This fund is open to many KTH students, but the hard filters narrow the field. You need a grade average of around 4.5, all first- and second-year compulsory courses passed, and financial need. Because the foundation is large and pays out several million SEK a year, many students share in it rather than a single winner. If you clearly meet the grade and course requirements and your studies lean towards industry, your prospects are good.
