About this scholarship
Lars Salvius scholarship and project grant
You will receive one of two awards from the Lars Salvius Society (Lars Salviusföreningen). The scholarship currently amounts to 40,000 SEK (approximately 3,630 EUR). This is a one-off award for scientific works that have already been published. The project grant is usually between 50,000 and 100,000 SEK (approximately 4,500 to 9,100 EUR). This is used to fund a project aimed at disseminating academic or popular science content. The funds come from the copying fees paid by Swedish universities for the reproduction of academic texts. Swedish authors’, publishers’ and journals’ associations pool these funds and award them once a year.
Who can apply
- Scholarship, who: You are someone who has produced an extensive body of work, consisting mainly of academic publications, which has probably been used and copied at universities and colleges.
- Project grant, who: You apply as a person (writer, researcher, publicist) or as an organisation (publisher, association, university department).
- Project grant, what: Your project makes a lasting contribution to improving the communication of science or scientific knowledge, for example through books, journals, the media, social media or public events. Funding is not available solely for the printing of books based on research projects.
- Field: Your work must focus on scholarly and academic writing and how it reaches people.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Members and non-members of the founding associations have the same right to apply.
How to apply
Applications are accepted once a year between 10 August and 30 September. The application forms will be published on the Swedish Writers’ Union’s website on 10 August. Please submit the completed form and supporting documents by email by 30 September. Applications submitted too early or too late will not be considered. The jury will reach its decision in the course of the autumn.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a highly targeted award. The scholarship recognises a demonstrable track record of academic publications. For the project grant, a concrete plan for disseminating the research results is required. If you clearly fit one of these profiles and can demonstrate this, your chances are good, as the pool of applicants is limited to individuals and organisations active in the field of Swedish research communication. What sets applicants apart is, in the case of the scholarship, a strong, well-documented track record of publications, or, in the case of the project grant, a clear plan for disseminating the research findings.
