About this scholarship
Strategic Grants for Internationalisation (STINT)
A Swedish higher education institution can receive up to SEK 2 million (about 180,000 EUR) per participating university, and a total of up to 5 million SEK (approximately 450,000 EUR) if several Swedish higher education institutions apply jointly. The funding covers a period of up to 3 years and begins no later than August of the year in which the call for proposals closes. In addition, you may apply for up to 5 million SEK (approximately 450,000 EUR) to fund international travel for early-career researchers, for which no co-funding is required. The funding comes from the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT). It supports projects that further develop and renew a university’s overall international strategy, ideally in collaboration with other Swedish higher education institutions.
Who can apply
- Who submits: Only the vice-chancellor or president of a Swedish higher education institution may submit an application. Individual students and researchers may not submit an application in their own name.
- How many per round: Each higher education institution may submit up to two applications per call for proposals. For example, one independent application and one joint application, or two joint applications.
- Co-funding: The university must provide at least the same amount as it has applied for from STINT. Additional travel funds for early-career researchers are exempt from this rule.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Geographic focus: If the project is targeted at a specific region, that region must be outside the EU/EFTA and the United Kingdom.
- Younger researchers (for the travel top-up): You are currently a PhD student or completed your PhD in 2023 or later. Any period spent abroad must last between 5 and 18 months and involve travel to or from a country outside the EU/EFTA and the United Kingdom.
How to apply
The Vice-Chancellor or President must submit the application in English via STINT’s online application system by 15:00 CEST on 2 April. An international panel of experts will assess each application against four criteria, and the STINT Board will make a decision in June.
If your institution is exploring further funding options beyond STINT, you can find additional opportunities in our guide Scholarships in Sweden.
