About this award / prize

A J Menzies Prize

You will receive a one-off award as the best second-year BSc student in Chemistry at the University of Birmingham. The prize is awarded by the University’s School of Chemistry and recognises your outstanding academic achievement during your second year.

Who can apply

  • University: You’re studying at the University of Birmingham in the UK.
  • Subject: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
  • Study year: You are in your second year (year 2).
  • Grades: You are the top-performing Bachelor’s student in your year group.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. The Faculty of Chemistry selects the winner based on their results in their second year of study.

How realistic are your chances?

This is an individual award for the best Bachelor’s student in Chemistry in a given year group at a university; it is therefore awarded to just one person. You cannot apply for it, and it is awarded on the basis of your marks. The only way to influence the outcome is to be the best student in your year group. You should therefore view the award more as recognition of outstanding achievement rather than something you should base your plans on.
