University of Oxford - The Scott Prize for the best performance in the MPhys examination

Benefit

For achieving first place in the final examination in Physics (MPhys) at the University of Oxford, you will receive a one-off cash prize of approximately 821 EUR. The MPhys is a four-year Master’s degree programme in Physics. The examiners at Oxford award this prize to the student with the highest overall mark in their final year. You may receive this prize alongside other physics prizes awarded by the University of Oxford, such as the Gibbs Prize.

Eligibility

• University: You’re studying physics at the University of Oxford.
• Degree: You are in the final year of the four-year MPhys (Master of Physics) degree programme.
• Field of study: Physics only.
• Grades: You achieved the highest overall mark in your year in the MPhys final examination.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. There are no restrictions.

How to apply

You cannot apply for this prize. The examiners award it automatically to the best students in the MPhys final examinations. The marks are the deciding factor.

How realistic are your chances?

The chances are as slim as they can possibly be. Every year, only one person from a year group of around 90 pupils is selected, and it all comes down to exam marks. You earn this place by coming top in the exam, not by submitting an application.
