About this award / prize
Benefit
You will receive a one-off cash prize of 120 euros from University College London (UCL). This prize is awarded to the top student who completes a degree in chemistry at UCL and subsequently commences a research programme in organic chemistry there. The Department of Chemistry at UCL awards this prize once a year. Dr Alfred Bader, a chemist and co-founder of the Aldrich Chemical Company, established the prize in 1990.
Eligibility
- Degree: You have completed a degree in chemistry with distinction (BSc or MSci) at UCL.
- Institution: You completed your bachelor’s degree at UCL and are staying on at UCL to pursue your PhD.
- Field: You completed your research degree in organic chemistry.
- Timing: Once you have completed your Bachelor’s degree, you will progress directly to a PhD programme.
- Grades: You are the best pupil in your year group who meets these criteria.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
There is no separate application process. Each year, the Department of Chemistry automatically selects the winner based on your results and your admission to a research degree programme in organic chemistry at UCL.
How realistic are your chances?
This prize is awarded to very few people. Only one student is selected each year, and you must be the top graduate in Chemistry at UCL who goes on to undertake postgraduate research in organic chemistry there. You cannot apply for it. The only way to be shortlisted is to achieve top marks and then go on to undertake research in organic chemistry at UCL.
