About this award / prize
What the George Webb Medley Graduate Prize gives you
In recognition of your outstanding achievements during your Master’s degree in Economics, the University of Oxford is awarding you a one-off grant of approximately 360 EUR. The money comes from the George Webb Medley Endowment Fund, the most prestigious prize fund for Economics, Politics and Philosophy at Oxford. It recognises the best examination results and the best dissertations and is awarded once per academic year.
Who can win it
- Degree: You are studying on the ‘MPhil in Economics’ Master’s programme (in your second year) or on the ‘MSc in Economics’ Master’s programme at the University of Oxford.
- Field of study: Economics only.
- Where you study: University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
- Performance: This year, you achieved the best results in the written exams, wrote the best dissertation or achieved the best overall performance on your degree programme.
- Nationality: Anyone of any nationality can win; there are no restrictions.
How to apply
No application is required. The prize is awarded automatically on the basis of your examination and dissertation results as part of the MPhil or MSc programme in Economics.
How realistic are your chances?
This is an award for the best student in each category – you do not need to apply for it – which is why only a handful of students receive this award each year. No additional documents need to be submitted. Your chances depend entirely on whether you come first in your accounting exams or your final dissertation. Think of the money more as a small bonus on top of the recognition, rather than as a way to fund your studies.
