About this grant / loan
Tuition Fee Loan at Aston University
You will receive a government loan of up to about EUR 11,026 per year (£9,790 for 2026/27), which will cover your full tuition fees for your undergraduate degree at Aston University. The money will never pass through your account. Student Finance England pays it directly to the university. During a placement year (a year you spend working in a company as part of your degree), the tuition fees are only £1,250,, and you can borrow this amount as well. This is a loan, not a grant, so you will have to repay it later. You will only start repaying it once you earn more than £25,000 per year, and the remaining balance will be written off if your income remains below this amount.
Who can apply
- Degree level: You are a full-time student at Aston University.
- Home student status: You are considered a ‘domestic’ student. This usually means that you are a British citizen or have ‘Settled’ status, and have lived in the United Kingdom for the three years prior to the start of your course.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Income: There is no income limit. Any eligible domestic student can receive the loan, regardless of their family’s income.
- Previous study: If you have already obtained a degree from another higher education institution, you may receive less funding, or none at all. You should therefore check this before enrolling.
How to apply
You apply for funding through Student Finance England, not through Aston University. Apply for funding online at gov.uk or using the paper form PN1. To start your studies in September 2026, you must submit your application by 29. May 2026 if you are a first-year student, or by 26 June 2026 if you are continuing your studies. Students already enrolled have up to nine months from the start of their course to apply.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not a competitive scholarship. There is neither a selection panel nor a limit on the number of participants. If you are classified as a home student and are studying full-time at Aston University, you will receive the loan regardless of your grades or income. You simply need to meet the deadline and – if you have studied previously – check whether the loan amount is reduced due to any previous periods of study.
