What you get

If you are studying for a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy at the University of Hertfordshire, you will receive at least about 5,800 EUR per year (£5,000) from the NHS Learning Support Fund. This is a government grant for healthcare students, which you will never have to repay. It is awarded in addition to the standard student loans for tuition fees and living costs. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to access further funding: up to approximately 2,300 EUR (£2,000) for childcare, up to approximately 3,500 EUR (£3,000) from a hardship fund if you find yourself in unexpected financial difficulties, and around 1,150 EUR (£1,000) if you are studying a subject where there is a staff shortage. The three-year degree programme is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. The ‘Guardian University Guide’ 2026 ranked it 4 in the UK for physiotherapy.

Who can apply

• Course: You are enrolled on a recognised healthcare degree programme. The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy at the University of Hertfordshire is one such programme.
• Field of study: You are studying nursing, midwifery or a recognised healthcare profession such as physiotherapy.
• Level: You may be either a first-year student or an advanced student.
• Residence: You meet the residence requirements of the NHS Fund for Great Britain.

The university also awards additional grants to students from low-income households (up to £30,000), former care home residents, students without family support, young carers and refugees. Most of these are aimed at students with UK residency status, and some are paid out automatically once you have enrolled.

How to apply

Applications for this degree programme are made via UCAS under reference number B160. The application deadline for the September 2026 intake has passed. There is no separate scholarship application process for this funding. Once you have enrolled, you will need to set up your own account with the NHS Learning Support Fund to apply for the funding.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition prize, but a scholarship awarded to every eligible student on the course. If you are offered a place on the course and meet the residence requirements, you are virtually guaranteed at least £5,000 per year. The real hurdle is gaining admission to the physiotherapy degree programme, for which 128 to 136 UCAS points are required. If you meet these entry requirements and the residence conditions, financial support is guaranteed.
