Aston Placement Scholarship

During your placement year, you will receive a one-off payment of 1,440 EUR (£1,250). This refers to the working or study year that is included in some Aston University Bachelor’s degree programmes between academic years. The amount will either cover your reduced tuition fees for the placement year or be paid into your bank account in two equal instalments during the spring and summer semesters. You can choose which option to take once your application has been approved. Aston University pays this amount as a one-off payment exclusively for the placement year.

Who can apply

• Fee status: You pay the tuition fees applicable to students from the UK or the EU. Students from the EU must have ‘Pre-Settled’ or ‘Settled’ status. Without this status, you will be regarded as an international student and will not be eligible for this funding.
• Where you study: You’re doing a sandwich degree at Aston University and are currently in your work placement year.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• One qualifying situation: You only need to meet one of these criteria. Your household income is £42,875 or less, your work placement is unpaid, your work placement takes place abroad (including within the EU), or you are studying for an integrated Master’s degree and are currently in your practical year.
• One award only: You will receive a single scholarship for the internship year, even if several of the points listed above apply to you. No other Aston University scholarship will run concurrently during this year.

How to apply

No separate application is required. Aston will automatically assess your eligibility based on your student finance details and your placement information. You should therefore ensure that your placement is registered and confirmed on your online portal by the end of January of your placement year. You will usually be notified of the result towards the end of November.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria are quite strict: you must be paying tuition fees at a specific university, be in your internship year, and meet one of a few specified requirements, such as a low household income, an unpaid internship or an internship abroad. If you clearly fall into one of these categories and your work placement is confirmed in good time, your chances are good, as the assessment is automatic and there is no selection process amongst applicants. The most important thing is that your work placement is approved before the January deadline.
