About this scholarship

Bay of Colwyn Scholarship

In your first year of study, you will receive a sum of one-off payment of about 1,725 EUR (£1,500), which will be paid out at the end of November following your enrolment. Bangor University in Wales awards this entry scholarship to a high-achieving student from the Colwyn Bay area who is commencing a bachelor’s degree there. The amount is paid as a one-off sum, not on a monthly basis, and covers only the first year of study.

Who can apply

  • Where you are from: You are from Colwyn Bay, Rhos-on-Sea or Old Colwyn. If you win, you will need to provide proof of your address.
  • Residence: You live in the United Kingdom or have residence status in the United Kingdom for fee purposes.
  • Level: You have completed level 3, i.e. the Abitur or an equivalent qualification.
  • Degree: You are applying for a bachelor’s degree programme at Bangor University, with or without a foundation year.
  • Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
  • Commitment: You must list Bangor as your first choice via UCAS and enrol there. You cannot defer your place to a later year.

How to apply

Please complete the application form for the admission scholarships. The application period begins on 8 October 2025 and ends on Friday, 30 January 2026. You will then sit a written examination on 11 February 2026 at your own school or university in a subject of your choice, which you can select from around 25 options. You will be notified of the results by email in March.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is very limited. You must be from Colwyn Bay, Rhos-on-Sea or Old Colwyn and be enrolled at Bangor, so only a few people are eligible. If you belong to this small local group and perform well in the entrance examination, your prospects are good. The university may withhold the award of the scholarship if no candidate meets the required standard, so the exam result remains crucial.
