Cardiff Education Fund grant

You will receive up to 580 EUR per year (up to £500) for up to 3 years, amounting to a maximum total of approximately 1,740 EUR over the entire period. The money is intended to cover course fees where no other funding is available, as well as course materials, activities and other learning resources. It comes from the Cardiff Community Endowment Fund, a pool of donations managed by the Community Foundation Wales to support education in Cardiff. The fund aims to award at least one three-year grant each year. You will only receive funding for subsequent years if you submit a progress report and provide evidence that you remain enrolled.

Who can apply

• What you study: All further or higher education programmes, whether at undergraduate or postgraduate level. All subject areas are eligible.
• Where you live: You live in Cardiff. Priority is given to people who attended a secondary school in Cardiff or who have lived in the Cardiff administrative area for at least 5 years.
• Financial need: You can demonstrate a verifiable financial hardship or difficult circumstances, such as a low family income or a disability that makes studying difficult.
• No other funding: The costs of your degree programme are not already covered by the statutory student finance, and you have not yet received any funding from this fund.
• Reference: You can name someone who knows you well but is neither a relative nor a housemate, such as a teacher, a social worker or a line manager. This person will be contacted.

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the Community Foundation Wales website. The deadline for applications is Monday, 7 September 2026, at 12:00 (subject to change).

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed exclusively at people resident in Cardiff who can demonstrate genuine financial hardship; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is small and competition is low. If you clearly meet the Cardiff eligibility criteria and can provide evidence of your financial situation as well as a valid reason for pursuing your studies, your chances are good. As the fund does not support individuals it has already assisted, a first, well-reasoned application is crucial.
