About this scholarship

What the Entrance Scholarship gives you

You will receive up to approximately 5,750 EUR (up to £5,000) per year to study at University of Aberdeen in Scotland. The exact amount is determined on an individual basis for each student and depends mainly on how much financial support you require. The university runs the programme in partnership with private donors to enable talented students to undertake a degree, regardless of their financial circumstances. The funding is intended to cover a full-time undergraduate degree at the Aberdeen campus.

Who can apply

  • Level of study: You are starting your first (undergraduate) degree at the University of Aberdeen.
  • Where you study: You are studying full-time at the Aberdeen campus. You applied via UCAS and have accepted a conditional or unconditional offer of a place.
  • Home: You live in Scotland and the university classifies you as a student liable for domestic tuition fees.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Financial need: You can show that you need the money.
  • Background: You meet at least one of the university’s criteria for promoting access to higher education. These criteria are aimed at students from disadvantaged or under-represented groups.
  • Student finance: You have applied to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for support with tuition fees and living costs, or you intend to apply.

How to apply

You complete an online form on the university’s portal. You provide details of your personal and financial circumstances, as well as a short statement of purpose outlining your background and your goals. In the last round of applications, the deadline was 31 July at 5.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is awarded on a highly selective basis. You must live in Scotland, be studying in Aberdeen, meet a criterion designed to promote access to higher education, and demonstrate genuine financial need; as a result, fewer people are eligible for this than for open scholarships. If you clearly meet these conditions and can provide evidence of your financial need, your chances are good. The selection process takes your personal background and circumstances into account, so a clear, well-documented application is more important than a highly polished one.
