Swansea University Excellence Scholarship

You will receive 3,000 GBP over three years (about 3,450 EUR), paid in three equal annual instalments of 1,000 GBP each (approximately 1,150 EUR). Swansea University in the United Kingdom awards this grant automatically to new undergraduate students with outstanding examination results. You may combine this grant with other grants or scholarships, such as local education funding. To receive the second and third payments, you must achieve an overall average of 60% at the end of your first and second years of study, whilst achieving at least 55% in each module.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You will be starting your first bachelor’s degree at Swansea University as a full-time student.
• Fees: You are a fee-paying student from the UK.
• Grades: You must have achieved AAA at A-Level or hold a recognised equivalent qualification, such as 36 points in the International Baccalaureate, a DDD in the BTEC Extended Diploma or an A in the Welsh Baccalaureate. The A-Level subject ‘General Studies’ is not taken into account.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects, either individually or in combination, with the exception of degree programmes funded by professional bodies, such as social work, medicine for career changers, and nursing/midwifery.
• New students only: You cannot apply if you are an exchange or visiting student, or if you have previously been enrolled as a full-time student at Swansea University or any other university.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. If you apply to Swansea University and achieve AAA at A-level or an equivalent result, you will be awarded the scholarship automatically. You will then need to accept the scholarship and enter your bank details into the university’s finance system by the end of your first semester.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is not competitive. The grade requirement is fixed, so any eligible UK student who achieves AAA and enrols on an eligible degree course will receive it automatically. If you meet the grade requirement and choose a subject that is not funded by external sources, the scholarship is yours. The real challenge lies in maintaining your average of 60% each year to unlock subsequent payments.
