IMechE Undergraduate Scholarship

You will receive about 2,300 EUR per year (£2,000) for up to four years, amounting to a total of up to approximately 9,200 EUR (£8,000). The funding will be paid out annually, provided you make satisfactory progress in your studies. Any years spent on an industrial placement will not count towards the four-year period. The funding is provided by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the UK’s professional body for mechanical engineers.

Who can apply

• Study level: You will be starting your first year of your Bachelor’s degree this autumn. This information is intended for students who are about to begin their studies, not for those who are already enrolled.
• Field of study: You are studying for a degree in mechanical engineering recognised by the IMechE (an accredited degree programme).
• University: Any UK university offering a degree programme accredited by the IMechE. There are no restrictions on your choice.
• Residence: You live in the United Kingdom.
• Application answer: Your answer to question 9 in the form will have a major impact on the decision, so you should take particular care with it.

How to apply

Please email your completed application form to the IMechE Awards Office by 30 June 2026. Please forward the reference form to your chosen referee, who must submit their reference directly by email to the same address by 15 July.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for the scholarship are quite narrow: you must be resident in the UK and be starting an engineering degree accredited by the IMechE, which means the pool of applicants remains small. If you clearly meet these requirements, your chances are good. A convincing, well-thought-out answer to question 9 is crucial, so please treat this as the core of your application.
