About this scholarship
Sports Scholarships at the University of Nottingham
You will receive about EUR 1,150 to EUR 9,200 per year (from £1,000 to £8,000) towards your training and competition costs. The grant runs for 12 months and can be renewed each year. The amount depends on your performance level: Bronze offers up to approximately 1,150 euros, Silver up to approximately 4,600 euros and Gold up to approximately 9,200 euros. In addition to the financial support, you will receive free access to the University’s sports facilities, strength and conditioning training, physiotherapy, sports psychology, nutritional advice, anti-doping advice, University sportswear, and personalised academic support (personalised assistance to help you balance your studies and sport). International students with outstanding sporting ability may instead apply for a separate grant of approximately 5,750 (£5,000) euros towards a reduction in their tuition fees. The programme is administered by the School of Sport at the University of Nottingham.
Who can apply
- Sporting level: You compete in your sport at academy, national or international level, or show great potential to reach that level.
- Study place: You have been offered a place at the University of Nottingham or are already studying there. You can apply before you have received an offer, but you must accept the place in writing before you can receive the scholarship.
- Degree level: Open to students in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, whether from within the country or from abroad.
- Sport: Priority is given to sports featured at the Olympic Games, the Paralympics, the Commonwealth Games and in the BUCS (British Universities’ Sports Confederation). Other sports are considered on a case-by-case basis.
How to apply
Please complete the online form to register your interest, ideally by 15 October, alongside your UCAS application. The final deadline is 1 December. Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis, so please apply as early as possible. You must reapply each year.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding is tied to a specific university and is reserved for athletes competing at academy, national or international level, meaning that far fewer people qualify for it than for open scholarships. If you compete at this level – particularly in an Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth or BUCS sport – and secure a place at the University of Nottingham, your chances are good. As places are allocated on a rolling basis, it is important to apply early.
