University College London - Malcolm Grant Scholarship

Benefit

You will receive a total of about 29,000 EUR (£25,000), spread evenly over the standard duration of your Bachelor’s degree, i.e. roughly one third per year over three years. You can use the money towards your tuition fees or your living costs – whichever you need most urgently. University College London (UCL) funds this grant for UK students who require financial support and can demonstrate leadership potential. It is paid in addition to the UCL Undergraduate Scholarship, so you can receive both awards.

Eligibility

• University: You have been offered a place on a full-time Bachelor’s degree programme at UCL, starting in 2026/27.
• Where you live: You are based in the UK and have ‘Home’ fee status. This means that you pay the lower fees for UK students rather than the fees for international students.
• Financial need: UCL will check your household income, and you will need to prove that you need the money.
• Leadership: You can demonstrate your leadership potential, for example through tasks in which you have taken on responsibility or led others.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Prior degree: If you have not yet obtained a bachelor’s degree, you will be given preference over applicants who already hold such a degree.

How to apply

First, apply to Student Finance England for an income-based maintenance loan (or complete form PFF2) so that UCL can see your assessed household income. You should then submit an online application via the UCL Portico system under ‘Funding’, select the Malcolm Grant Scholarship and write a leadership statement. The application deadline is Monday, 6 July 2026, at 5 BST. A UCL panel will make the decision based on financial need and leadership qualities; you will receive a response by mid-September.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed exclusively at students from the UK who have been offered a place at UCL, and requires both demonstrable financial need and genuine leadership experience. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is smaller than for an open scholarship. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate your leadership qualities using specific examples, your chances are good. Submit your application to Student Finance well in advance to avoid being rejected on procedural grounds.
