About this scholarship
What the National Scholarship Programme gave you
In their first year at University of Cambridge, they received a fee waiver of approximately 7,000 EUR (6,000 GBP) on their tuition fees. The funding was only available for the first year. The university and the UK government jointly funded these grants for students from low-income households who were commencing a bachelor’s degree. For the academic year starting in October 2013, Cambridge awarded 264 of these grants.
Who could apply
- Degree: You’ve just started your first bachelor’s degree at the University of Cambridge.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Where you lived: You have lived in England or in an EU country outside the United Kingdom. Students from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were not eligible to apply.
- Family income: Your household’s annual income, after deduction of allowances, was 25,000 GBP or less. With an annual income of less than 20,000 GBP, your prospects were assessed as particularly good.
- Guaranteed funding: You were guaranteed support if your household income was 25,000 GBP or less and one of the following applied: you spent more than three months in a care home or with a foster family, you were brought up by a single parent, or you received free school meals.
How you applied
If you have been living in England or an eligible EU country and have received an offer from Cambridge, your college will usually have automatically invited you to apply in January. You then submitted the online NSP form, together with your supporting documents, to your college by 16 September. The final decision was made by your college’s selection panel.
