LSE Stelios Scholarship

You will receive around EUR 11,100 per year (£9,483) for each of the three years of your bachelor’s degree, making a total of around 33,000 euros. The funding comes from the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, which was established by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder of easyJet and an LSE graduate. The London School of Economics administers the awards. You’ll also become part of a group of current and former Stelios scholars who meet regularly, and the founder keeps in touch with the group personally.

Who can apply

• University: You have been offered a place at the LSE in London – either a firm offer or a conditional offer.
• Degree level: You are starting a three-year bachelor’s degree programme.
• Subject: You are studying economics or business administration.
• Where you live: You are considered a UK ‘home’ student, which means that you are ordinarily resident in the UK.
• Money you need: You can demonstrate that you cannot afford to study at the LSE without financial support.

How to apply

Once you have received your offer from the LSE, please complete the LSE scholarship form and enclose an academic reference from a teacher or tutor. By submitting this single form, you will automatically be applying for all scholarships for which you are eligible; a separate application for this scholarship is therefore not required. The application deadline for students from the UK is 1 June. Late applications will not be considered.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a very limited scholarship: only four places are available each year at a university for British students in these subject areas, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you have been offered a place at the LSE to study Economics or Business Studies and can clearly demonstrate that you need financial support, your prospects are good. As the LSE attracts many highly qualified applicants, you can stand out from the crowd by providing a well-reasoned explanation of your financial hardship.
