About this scholarship

Benefit

They received a grant of fully funded three-month extension from their existing Wellcome Trust fellowship (approximately 3,000 EUR). They spent three months working at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) in Westminster. The POST is the research organisation that advises the UK Parliament on matters relating to science and technology. During this time, you wrote a ‘POSTnote’, a short policy brief that summarises research findings for MPs and their staff in a few, easy-to-read pages. They gathered supporting evidence, interviewed experts and learnt how to present findings to decision-makers rather than to an academic audience. The Wellcome Trust ran the fellowship in collaboration with POST.

Eligibility

  • Existing Wellcome award: You have previously held an active Wellcome Trust fellowship, such as a PhD fellowship, a research fellowship or a postdoctoral fellowship. You cannot apply without such a fellowship.
  • Career stage: They were PhD students, postdoctoral researchers or early-career researchers.
  • Field of study: Their field of research was in the humanities, the social sciences or the areas of society and ethics.
  • Nationality: Applicants of any nationality were eligible to apply, provided they held a recognised Wellcome Fellowship.

How to apply

They applied directly to the Wellcome Trust, rather than through an open external call for applications. The final round took place in May 2021.
