About this scholarship

Pigott Scholarships at the University of Cambridge

You will receive a PhD scholarship to study the humanities or social sciences at the University of Cambridge. Two scholarships are awarded each year. The programme was established in 2008 thanks to a donation of £2 million from the Pigott family. The exact amount of the grant and its duration are not made public.

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You are currently studying for a PhD or are about to start your PhD (a research-based PhD).
  • Field of study: Your degree subject is in the arts, humanities or social sciences.
  • University: You’re studying at the University of Cambridge.
  • Nationality: You are a British citizen.
  • Grades: You must have an outstanding academic record, as the award is given to the best candidates.

How realistic are your chances?

Every year, only two scholarships are awarded at one of the world’s most prestigious universities; as a result, the pool of applicants is small but very strong. If you are a British student with an outstanding academic record and are aiming to pursue a PhD in the humanities or social sciences at Cambridge, you fit the profile. Due to the limited number of places, the selection process is very rigorous.
