What the Dean's Postgraduate International Scholarship gives you

You will receive a one-off grant of approximately 5,850 EUR (£5,000) to study for a Master’s degree (MSc) at Aston University in Birmingham, UK. The Faculty of Engineering at Aston University is offering this grant to international students. Twelve scholarships have been awarded, broken down by region of origin: 4 for applicants from India, 4 from China and 4 from the rest of the world.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are starting a Master’s degree (MSc), not a Bachelor’s degree or a PhD.
• Field of study: You are studying for a Master’s degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences at Aston University.
• Offer in hand: You have already been offered a place on one of these MSc programmes.
• Grades: Your bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a British ‘First Class Honours’ or an equivalent result at the highest level in your country.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. A separate set of rules applies to students from the United Kingdom and the EU.

How to apply

Write a short essay of no more than 500 words on the given topic: Why should you be awarded the scholarship and why do you wish to study engineering at Aston University? This is a personal statement specifically for the scholarship, not a general personal statement. The essay will be assessed by a panel. The deadline is 30 June.

How realistic are your chances?

The target group is small: you need an offer for a Master’s degree in Engineering at Aston University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree with a ‘First Class’ honours, meaning that only a few people meet the requirements. Due to regional quotas, you will mainly be competing for the four places allocated to your own region. If you clearly meet these requirements and write a well-targeted essay, your prospects are good. Please note that this information is from the 2014/15 round; therefore, check whether Aston is still awarding this scholarship before relying on it.
