Blackburn College High Achievers Scholarship

You will receive up to £1,000 (about 1,150 EUR) to cover your study costs. The amount will be paid in three instalments per year over a maximum period of two years. The money is intended to cover expenses such as bus or taxi fares, e-books, study notes and learning materials, so that you can concentrate fully on your studies rather than taking on a part-time job. Blackburn College awards 9 of these scholarships each year. In return, you will act as an ambassador for the college by taking part in committees, focus groups and events.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are a new student joining Blackburn College straight after leaving school.
• Grades: You have achieved, or are expected to achieve, GCSE results of at least 3 grades at level 7 and 3 grades at level 8. GCSEs are exams taken in England at around the age of 16.
• Age: You are between 16 and 18 years old.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
• Nationality: All nationalities welcome.

How to apply

As soon as you have received your GCSE results, please complete the online application form and email a copy of your results to the college, using ‘Scholarship Application’ as the subject line. All applicants who meet the criteria will be invited to an interview before a decision is made on the award of scholarships.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is aimed at a small target group: new students in Years 16 to 18 at a specific university with very good GCSE grades. This means that the pool of applicants for the 9 places remains small. If you clearly meet the grade requirements and demonstrate genuine commitment during your interview, your chances are good. It is advisable to apply immediately after your results are announced, as places are limited.
