What the Sporting Excellence Scholarship gives you

You will receive about 1,400 EUR (1,200 GBP) for one academic year, paid out in three instalments. The money is intended to support your sporting activities: use it for travel to training sessions or competitions, for high-quality kit, or to hire a specialist coach. It is provided by Blackburn College in Lancashire, England, for school leavers who enrol on a full-time course there.

Who can apply

• Age: You are a school leaver aged between 16 and 18.
• Where you study: You are enrolled at Blackburn College.
• Sport: You compete in a sport at district or national level and train intensively.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• Staying funded: You attend classes regularly, hand in your homework, achieve your target marks and continue to develop as an athlete.

Download the university’s scholarship application form and submit it. Unlike the university’s automatic academic scholarship, a completed application form is required for this sports scholarship.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is highly selective: you must be studying at a specific university, be aged between 16 and 18, and take part in district or regional championships, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate both good grades and genuine success in competitions, your chances are good.
