University of Bradford Postgraduate Bursary

You will receive a one-off cash payment of 500 GBP (about 585 EUR) when you commence a full-time postgraduate programme at the University of Bradford. As part of a research programme, you may claim this payment up to three times. The amount will be paid out once your application has been accepted; it is not paid in monthly instalments. The university offers this support to help graduates who have self-funded their first degree and are now undertaking postgraduate study.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled as a full-time postgraduate student at the University of Bradford. This may be a taught programme or a research programme.
• Field of study: All compartments are open.
• Who pays your fees: You are responsible for paying your own tuition fees and do not receive any financial support from any other scholarship or scheme.
• Where you are from: You are from the UK or the EU. If you are from the EU, you must have obtained your first higher education qualification in England.
• When you graduated: You obtained your first degree within the last 10 years.
• Earlier support: In your final year of your Bachelor’s degree, you received a full living costs grant from your local authority or the Student Loans Company. If you started this course in September 2015 or later, a means-tested full living costs grant from the Student Loans Company applies instead.

How to apply

Please send an email to the university’s scholarships office, stating your name and your student number (UB). The Scholarships Office will then send you the application form. There is neither an interview nor a ranking list. Payment will be made as soon as a valid application has been received. The deadline is 31 July.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition. There is no limit to the number of grants available and there is no selection process; so, provided you meet all the criteria, you will receive the money. The real hurdle is eligibility for the grant itself, particularly the fact that you are receiving a full grant or an income-contingent loan in your final year of your Bachelor’s degree. If this applies to you and you are self-funding your studies at Bradford, your chances are good. Please note that you can only claim one Bradford discount or scholarship at a time.
