About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive up to approximately 1,150 EUR per academic year. The money will be paid out to you throughout the year to cover verifiable sports-related expenses such as training, equipment, travel costs and competition fees. You’ll also receive a comprehensive training package: free gym membership, one-to-one and small-group training for strength and fitness, physiotherapy and sports massages, recovery programmes including hydrotherapy, professional coaching, a personal lifestyle mentor (someone to help you balance sport and your studies), workshops for athletes on nutrition, psychology and injury prevention, as well as the official Sport Brighton team kit. The University of Brighton in England awards this scholarship to help elite athletes balance competitive sport with their studies.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are already studying at the University of Brighton or have been offered a conditional or unconditional place for the coming academic year.
- Your sport level: You take part in competitions at regional level or higher, or achieve a comparable standard.
- Your sport: Open to a wide range of sports, including para-sports.
- Field of study: Open to any topic.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. There are separate application forms for students from the UK and for international students.
- Commitment: You are taking part in the scholarship programme and, where possible, will compete for the university in Student League (BUCS) competitions.
How to apply
Apply online via the Sport Brighton website as soon as you have received your offer or have enrolled. Use the form for UK students or the form for international students. The application deadline is 30.06. Final decisions will only be made after A-level results have been announced, so that any remaining places can still be filled. You must reapply each year.
How realistic are your chances?
Places are limited and are allocated on the basis of a comparison of applicants, meaning that both the level of competition and the quality of this year’s pool of applicants will determine the outcome. The award is tied to a specific university and is aimed at athletes who already compete at regional level or higher; therefore the pool of applicants is smaller than for open financial scholarships. If you clearly meet these sporting requirements, have been admitted to Brighton and apply before the deadline, your chances are good.
