About this scholarship
What the scholarship gives you
During your course of study, which lasts up to four years, you will receive a reduction in tuition fees of about 11,500 EUR per year (£10,000), amounting to a total of up to approximately 46,000 euros (£40,000). This will directly reduce your tuition fees. It is not a cash payment. The University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom awards five of these scholarships each year to international students who have obtained the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, the globally recognised two-year school-leaving qualification. After the first year of study, the discount will continue provided you have passed at least 120 credits in the previous year with an average of 60%.
Who can apply
- Your qualification: You are preparing for the International Baccalaureate Diploma or have already obtained it.
- Your offer: You have been offered a place on a full-time or part-time degree programme (Bachelor’s or Foundation Degree) at the University of Sheffield, starting in 1 or 2.
- Field of study: Open to all Bachelor’s degree programmes with the exception of Medicine (A100/A101) and Dentistry (A200). MArch programmes are regarded as postgraduate programmes and are not permitted.
- Where you study: Your entire degree programme must take place in Sheffield itself and must not be offered in conjunction with a partner university.
- Fee status: You are funding your studies yourself and pay the tuition fee for international students.
- No full sponsor: You do not yet have funding to cover your full tuition fees.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
How to apply
You cannot apply until you have received confirmation of a place at university. Eligible students will then receive the application link by email. The application period begins in late autumn and ends on 25.04. A panel comprising experienced university staff will select the winners. They will assess your academic performance, your achievements in voluntary work or extracurricular activities, and how these activities relate to your degree programme and your future plans.
How realistic are your chances?
Only five scholarships are awarded each year, so competition is fierce, even though the criteria for international IB students are quite broad. Good grades alone are not the deciding factor. The selection panel also assesses your voluntary work and your extracurricular achievements, as well as their relevance to your chosen degree programme. If you can demonstrate a clear, well-documented profile and apply early after receiving your offer of admission, your chances will improve.
