About this scholarship
Access Entry Bursary at Royal Holloway
You will receive about 1,150 EUR (GBP 1,000) per year of study, which will be paid in instalments directly into your bank account. The funding covers every year of your full-time undergraduate degree, i.e. up to four years for a standard three- or four-year degree programme. If you are on an accelerated programme (which is completed in fewer years), you will also receive 20%. Royal Holloway, University of London, automatically awards this grant to older students who are starting their degree programme and come from households on a lower income. You can combine it with other funding from the university.
Who can apply
- Age: You are in your first year of university 21 or older.
- University: You are undertaking a full-time Bachelor’s degree at Royal Holloway and pay the home student tuition fees of 9,790 GBP for 2026/2027.
- Your qualification: You hold a QAA-recognised ‘Access to Higher Education’ diploma, a course designed to prepare adults without standard school-leaving qualifications for higher education.
- Offer: You have received an unconditional offer from Royal Holloway, which means that your place on the course has been confirmed and there are no further conditions to be met.
- Household income: Your household income is 25,000 GBP per year or less, as verified by the Student Loans Company.
- First degree: You do not yet hold a bachelor’s degree or a higher qualification.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
How to apply
You do not need to submit a separate application. Apply for a means-tested loan via Student Finance England. Give the Student Loans Company permission to share your income and loan details with Royal Holloway. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the grant will be awarded automatically.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not a competition that you can lose out to other applicants. It is a fixed, automatically awarded scholarship. If you have 21 points or more, hold an ‘Access Diploma’, have been granted unconditional admission and your household income is no more than 25,000 GBP, you will receive it. If you meet all these conditions and give your consent to the sharing of your data, the money is yours.
