Sports Bursary Award (Brunel University of London)

As a top-level athlete studying at Brunel University London, you will receive a cash award of up to £3,000 per academic year (about 3,450 EUR). The amount varies from year to year and depends on your sport, the funds available and your financial needs. In addition to this money, you will receive:

• A support package comprising products and services worth over £500
• Free weekly physiotherapy sessions
• Sport psychology support
• Free use of the University’s athletics hall and strength and conditioning training area
• A sport scholarship kit
• If you wish, there is sports-friendly accommodation available on campus, right next to the sports facilities.

The scholarship does not cover either your tuition fees or your accommodation costs.

Who can apply

• University place: You have met the academic entry requirements for a degree programme at Brunel University and have been offered a place, either conditionally or unconditionally.
• Study level: You are studying for a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Sporting level: You take part in international junior competitions (or equivalent events) in one of the priority sports (athletics, netball, rugby, basketball, futsal) or are among the top 10 in your age group in your sport. Other sports such as badminton, rowing, golf, hockey, judo, swimming, tennis and women’s football are also taken into account.
• Proof: You can obtain a letter of recommendation from the performance director or national coach of your national federation.
• Nationality and gender: Applicants of any nationality and gender are welcome to apply.

How to apply

Please complete a separate application form for the sports scholarship, not just your university application. Apply by 31 July to secure a place in a sports-friendly hall of residence. Although you can still apply until 31 August, you will not be guaranteed a place in halls of residence if you do so.

How realistic are your chances?

Around three scholarships are awarded each year, and competition is fierce, so meeting the criteria is no guarantee of a place. The award is aimed exclusively at serious athletes, which keeps the pool of applicants small. If you actually compete at international junior level or hold a top 10 position in your age group and can provide evidence of this in the form of a letter from your national coach, you have a real chance. Apply by 31 July to secure your place in the accommodation too.
