Lambeth Residents Grant (Walcot Foundation)

You will receive about 2,070 EUR per year (£1,800), paid in two instalments, usually for up to three years of your studies. The money covers day-to-day study costs such as accommodation, travel costs, books, a laptop or specialist equipment. If you have children, you can apply for an additional childcare allowance, which will increase your total grant to around 4,600 EUR (£4,000) per year. The funding comes from the Walcot Foundation, a charity that helps low-income residents of the London borough of Lambeth to finance their education.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You have been living in Lambeth for at least one year, or you have been rehoused by Lambeth Council from outside the borough.
• Age: You will be at least 19 years old during the academic year for which you are applying.
• Financial need: Your household is on a low income. This means that you receive means-tested benefits, are entitled to free school meals, or earn very little.
• Course: You are enrolled on a degree programme or have been admitted to one. This may be your first bachelor’s degree programme, a non-degree programme or a vocational programme (up to NVQ level 4) at a university of applied sciences.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. If you are not a British national, you will need valid residence status in the United Kingdom, such as ‘Settled Status’ or ‘Indefinite Leave to Remain’.
• Field of study: Every subject, provided the degree programme is based in the UK.
• What is not covered: You cannot apply if you already hold a first degree or an NVQ qualification at level 4. Nor can you apply for a Master’s degree programme, a second higher education qualification, a repeat year, a placement year as part of a work-study programme, or a postgraduate programme.

How to apply

You can apply online using the Walcot Foundation’s application form, or submit your application documents by post or email. The application deadline for the academic year 2026/27 is 31 August 2026. There is no interview. The Foundation’s funding team usually reaches its decision within around six weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is means-tested and linked to your place of residence. You must have lived in Lambeth for at least one year and be from a low-income household. As a result, the group of people eligible for this funding is small compared to open scholarships. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide proof of your residence and income, your chances are good. The decision is made according to fixed criteria rather than on a competitive basis; therefore, it is essential to submit a complete application that meets all the criteria.
