Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust bursary

You will receive an annual scholarship to study at a UK university. The amount is about 570 to 3,450 EUR (£500 to £3,000) per year for an undergraduate degree (first degree) or up to approximately 5,750 EUR (£5,000) per year for a master’s degree. The exact amount depends on your financial needs and the funds available this year. You can use it to cover tuition and examination fees, accommodation, travel costs, living expenses and study materials. The scholarship is awarded for each year of your studies, provided you are enrolled as a full-time student and pass your exams. It is provided by a UK charity that supports people working in the food retail sector, pharmacies and the commercial travel industry, as well as their families.

Who can apply

• Trade link: You, a parent or your spouse work in one of the following three sectors: the food retail sector (supermarkets, wholesale, food manufacturers, convenience shops or similar, but not in head office or administrative roles), in a pharmacy, or as a qualified pharmacist or pharmacy assistant, or as a sales representative (sales staff employed by a manufacturer or wholesaler).
• Work history: This person is now working in this profession and has been working in the UK for at least 5 years.
• Residence: You live in the UK.
• Course: You are studying full-time at a recognised British university or higher education institution with a view to obtaining an academic degree. Distance-learning courses are not eligible for funding.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Financial need: Your household income should ideally be below £50,000.. Applications with a household income above £90,000 will not be considered.

How to apply

Please complete the online application form via the Foundation’s funding portal. When doing so, please explain your financial needs and what you require the money for. The application deadline for Bachelor’s students is 15 October, and for Master’s students it is 1 September.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very strictly limited to specific occupational groups. You are only eligible if you or a close family member have worked in the food retail sector, in a pharmacy or in a sales representative role for at least five years, which keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly belong to one of these occupational groups and can demonstrate a genuine financial need, your prospects are good. The foundation cannot support everyone or always pay out the maximum amount; you should therefore submit a clear, well-documented application and ensure it is submitted by the deadline.
