About this grant / loan

What you get

Your employer pays part or all of your tuition fees towards a postgraduate programme at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). Depending on the agreement, they may also grant you paid leave to study and cover other study-related costs. There is no fixed amount. The amount depends entirely on what you and your employer agree. This is not a competitive scholarship, but a payment option offered by UWE to enable a sponsor to pay your fees directly.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are a PhD student at UWE Bristol.
  • Sponsor: An employer or a public authority has agreed to cover all or part of your fees. A family member does not count towards this.
  • Course fit: As a general rule, your degree must be directly related to your profession.
  • Field of study: All subjects.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Your sponsor must complete the UWE online form for sponsors, and you must provide the sponsor’s details when you enrol. You will need a new form for each academic year. Once UWE has received the form, an invoice will be issued to the sponsor, who must pay the fees in full within 30 days.

How realistic are your chances?

There is neither a selection committee nor a set budget, so the only real hurdle is finding an employer who is prepared to cover the costs. If your course clearly benefits your career and your employer agrees to fund it, the arrangement will be handled by means of a simple payment. Please note: if your sponsor fails to make the payment, you will have to cover the fees yourself.
