About this grant / loan
What you get
At the University of Edinburgh, you will receive a 10% discount on your postgraduate tuition fees. The discount applies only to the portion of the fees that you pay yourself. It does not apply to portions that have already been paid by another scholarship, a funding body, your employer or a company. Nor does it reduce any additional study or research costs. You may use the discount for several eligible postgraduate programmes in succession – for example, first for a Master’s programme and then for a research programme – but you must submit a separate application each time.
Who can apply
- Past study at Edinburgh: You were previously enrolled as a Bachelor’s student at the University of Edinburgh as part of an exchange programme and completed at least one semester there.
- Next step: You are starting a postgraduate programme at the University of Edinburgh, either a taught Master’s programme or a research programme.
- Nationality: Open to everyone, including students from both the UK and abroad.
- Field of study: Most degree programmes are eligible for funding; however, some are excluded, such as the MSc in Economics, various programmes in the fields of Education and Law, and certain programmes offered in partnership with other institutions. Programmes in the fields of development, continuing professional development (CPD, short courses to update professional skills) and summer school courses are not eligible. Please check the list of exclusions before applying.
- Financial need: None. There is no means test.
How to apply
Applications must be made via the university’s online form. There is no application deadline; however, you should apply before the start of your postgraduate programme to ensure that your tuition fee invoice is correct. The university will assess your eligibility based on the details you provide. There is no interview.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not an award granted on a competitive basis. If you have completed at least one semester as a visiting student on a Bachelor’s programme in Edinburgh and enrol on an eligible Master’s programme, you will receive the discount. The only real hurdle is to check that your chosen programme is not on the exclusion list. If you apply before the start of your studies, your chances are good.
