William Hunter Sharpe Memorial Award

You will receive about 5,800 EUR (£5,000) as a contribution towards your tuition fees for one academic year. This amount will be deducted directly from your fees, meaning you will pay less. The University of Edinburgh awards this scholarship for its MSc Creative Writing, a one-year master’s programme in the writing of fiction, poetry and other creative works. As a scholarship holder, you will play an active part in the postgraduate community and present your work to fellow students and staff throughout the year.

Who can apply

• Programme: You are a new applicant for the Master’s programme in ‘Creative Writing’ at the University of Edinburgh, which begins in September 2026.
• Study mode: You can study full-time or part-time.
• Previous degree: You hold a UK first-class degree or a 2:1 degree with honours, or are due to obtain such a degree or an equivalent qualification from another country.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. We welcome applications from both the UK and abroad.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. Anyone who applies for the Master’s programme in ‘Creative Writing’ by Monday, 4 May 2026 will automatically be considered. If you are selected, you will receive a response by the end of July 2026.
