About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a travel grant of up to about EUR 700 (£600) for conferences in the UK and up to about EUR 940 (£800) for conferences abroad, provided you give a presentation. In addition to travel expenses for conferences, the fund can also cover start-up funding for new research projects, additional funding for ongoing research projects, and publication costs. The University of Warwick administers the fund through its ‘Research & Impact Services’ department and the ‘Humanities Research Centre’. Please note that for each grant, a contribution of 10% is required from your department.
Who can apply
- Where you study or work: You are employed at the University of Warwick, either as academic staff in the Faculty of Humanities or as a PhD or Master’s student on a research programme.
- Field: Your field of work is in the humanities (Faculty of Humanities).
- For conference grants: You are giving a talk at the conference. Please explain what the conference is about, why it is worth attending, and what you will be presenting – ideally with an abstract (a brief summary of your talk).
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at the University of Warwick.
How to apply
Applications are made online via the University of Warwick’s internal portal, for which a university login is required. Application rounds take place annually with fixed deadlines, for example on 31 October for the 2025/26 round. Between rounds, you may also submit unscheduled applications. A panel reviews these applications approximately every one to two weeks on a ‘first come, first served’ basis until the budget has been exhausted.
How realistic are your chances?
This fund is open exclusively to the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Warwick, meaning that only those already employed by the university may apply. If you are a member of staff at the University of Warwick or a PhD student in the humanities and can demonstrate a specific conference paper or project, your chances are good. As the funding is allocated outside the regular budget cycle, on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted, it is advisable to apply early in the year.
