Clark (Mile-End) Bursary Fund

You will receive a sum of one-off grant of about 1,170 EUR (between 500 and 1,500 GBP, so the exact amount varies). The payment is a one-off payment, not a monthly payment. The fund is a Scottish charity founded in 1868, which awards a maximum of 10 scholarships each year. A panel of trustees decides who receives a scholarship based on your academic performance, your extracurricular activities and your career potential.

Who can apply

• Degree already held: You have obtained an Honours degree, i.e. a full Bachelor’s degree with Honours from a British or foreign university.
• Next step: You are currently studying or applying for a further degree or a postgraduate programme.
• Glasgow or Strathclyde link: Either you have completed your honours degree at the University of Glasgow or the University of Strathclyde – in which case you can undertake your next degree programme at any university in the United Kingdom or abroad. Or you may be undertaking your next postgraduate programme at Glasgow or Strathclyde – in which case your honours degree may have been awarded by any university.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality.
• Where you live: You are resident in the United Kingdom at the time the grant is paid out.
• Activities outside your studies: You can demonstrate genuine commitment through involvement in clubs, voluntary work or similar activities. That’s what counts most.

How to apply

Please apply via the online form on the Fund’s website by the closing date of 1 September. If you are shortlisted, you will attend an interview in Glasgow at the end of October and be notified of the result in early November.

How realistic are your chances?

The fund receives around 300 applications each year and awards a maximum of 10 grants, so competition is fierce. Good grades alone are not enough. The members of the board of trustees place great emphasis on your extracurricular activities and your professional potential. Clear evidence of your activities outside your studies is what sets applicants apart from the rest. If you can demonstrate a connection to Glasgow or Strathclyde and provide this evidence, you stand a real chance.
