About this scholarship
Department of French Award
You will receive a one-off payment of up to about 4,200 EUR (up to £3,600) as financial support for your Bachelor’s degree in French at the University of Sheffield. This is one of the scholarships from the University’s Alumni Fund, which is financed by a donation earmarked specifically for students in the Department of French. The money is intended to cover study-related costs such as living expenses or a year abroad.
Who can apply
- Level: You are a student on a first-cycle degree programme (Bachelor’s).
- Subject: You’re studying at the Department of French.
- Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Sheffield in the UK.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- Financial need: Your household income is 50,000 GBP (approximately 58,000 EUR) or less, as determined by Student Finance (the UK body responsible for assessing student finance).
- Life circumstances: The Commission gives preference to applicants who have overcome exceptional difficulties. You should also clearly explain why you have chosen Sheffield and what you intend to do after completing your studies.
How to apply
You cannot apply in your own right. If your household income is 50,000 GBP or less and Student Finance has carried out a means test, you will receive an invitation to apply via email from the university’s Financial Support Team. A panel comprising senior academic and administrative staff will then make a decision. Course of study, gender and ethnic background may be taken into account to ensure a diverse student body.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is highly selective: only French undergraduate students in Sheffield with a household income of 50,000 GBP or less are invited to apply, so the pool of applicants is small. If you meet these criteria and present your reasons and goals convincingly, your chances are good. Please note that the most recent confirmed information dates from 2016/17; it is therefore unclear whether the scholarship is still available.
