Law Gibbs Prize (University of Oxford)

You get a one-off cash prize of up to about 1,495 EUR (1,300 GBP) for outstanding results in your final law exams at the University of Oxford. The University awards several Gibbs Prizes in law each year, funded by a gift from Charles D. D. Gibbs. The top winner receives 1,300 GBP, the runner-up 850 GBP, and three further students each get a 600 GBP book prize. The prizes reward your overall performance in the Final Honour School, the final exams of your undergraduate law degree.

Who can apply

• University: You study at the University of Oxford.
• Study phase: You are sitting your Final Honour School, the final exams of an undergraduate degree.
• Field of study: Law (BA in Jurisprudence or an equivalent law degree).
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Grades: You are among the very best law candidates in your year's final exams.

How to apply

There is nothing to apply for. The examiners pick the winners directly from your coursework and exam results. If no candidate is good enough in a given year, they may decide not to award a prize.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a merit prize for the strongest law finalists at one university. Only a handful of students win each year, and you cannot influence the outcome by applying. Your prospects come down to how you rank against the other students in your year. If you are consistently at the top, you have a real shot; otherwise it stays out of reach.
