Rolls Royce Prize for the best 3rd year DPhil poster

The winner of the best poster in the ‘Scientific Conference’ category will receive a one-off cash prize of about 233 EUR (£200). This refers to a poster in the standard format commonly used at scientific conferences. Rolls-Royce sponsors the prize, and the Department of Materials Science at the University of Oxford is responsible for organising it. It is awarded once a year to a single winner, and occasionally jointly to several winners.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are a PhD student (DPhil) in your 3 year.
• Department: You are studying at the Department of Materials Science at the University of Oxford.
• Field of study: Materials science.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• What you submit: A poster in the ‘Scientific Conference’ category. Presenting this poster is a compulsory part of the DPhil programme in the 3 year, so all eligible students take part.

How to apply

There is no separate registration process. Please submit your poster within your department during the Hilary term (spring term) by Monday of week 3 at the latest. All posters from the 3 academic year will then be presented at a session in week 6, during which the winner will be announced.

How realistic are your chances?

The group eligible to take part is very small. Only DPhil students in their 3th year in a department at Oxford are eligible to take part, so you will not be competing against a nationwide field of entrants, but only against a small group. As participation is compulsory, everyone is automatically entered, and the prize goes to the best poster. A clear, well-designed poster with well-founded results is the key to success.
